Loek Van Wely

The charismatic IGM Loek Van Wely started to play chess at the age of 4, becoming an IM at 17 and IGM at 20. 

He entered the world top 10 in 2001, after winning many major events: Berliner Sommer, Capablanca Memorial, World Open and New York Open, Rubinstein Memorial, Amsterdam Open. He is a  6 times Dutch Champion ( from 2000-2006), the winner of the Foxwoods Open, the Chicago Open, the National Open in Las Vegas, Sydney Open and was a quarter finalist at the World Championshipcycle in 1997.

He has seconded  G.Kamsky, V.Topalov, R.Ponomaroiv, V.Kramnik and A.Giri and on several occasions he coached  talented Dutch and foreign youngsters. He led  the Dutch team to first place at the European Championships in 2001 and 2005. He is very active in team leagues, playing for Charlois Europoort in the Netherlands, Porz in Germany, Clichy in France and Gros in Spain.

He is currently rated  2678 and preparing to play in one of the strong closed tournaments in the world, the top group of Tata Steel in Wijk Aan Zee.

This will be his first book and we are honoured that Thinkers Publishing may present it this Spring.
